Baby Pink and Baby Blue? SPRING HAS PICKED a Color (Or Two)

The conversation around what is the new black will never end (spoiler: it’s always going to be black). That being said, we like to welcome guest appearances — momentary spotlights — on different colors. Last year, we saw an uptick in all things red (and burgundy, for those who like to tone it down), and for 2025, we’re seeing two exciting newcomers: baby pink and baby blue.
They’re two rather unassuming entries. The lighthearted and sweet hues feel almost ironic considering the state of the world. But perhaps that’s exactly what we need: a little bright color. At least that’s what the runways are telling us. Khaite, Alaïa, Brandon Maxwell, and Jill Sander were all loud and clear in their messaging: there’s strength in soft pink. Some may critique that pastel colors are nothing groundbreaking for Spring, but I have to disagree. I can’t remember the last time we saw streets filled with these cheerful tones — particularly not in this mature, sophisticated fashion.
For those of you hesitant to try out pink, there is its blue counterpart. Baby blue offers a cooler approach to Spring. Some take longer to defrost from the unforgiving cold, and this color gently wakes you up from hibernation. It’s also a color that feels familiar to the body and therefore offers easier styling solutions. I wouldn’t be surprised if you already own a blue shirt or two, making it simpler to dip your toes into the trend. And while it may serve as the more calm and collected sister, it offers the same type of youthful joy. Take it from Chanel, whose runway was drizzled with splashes of blue all over. Or pretty much every single person attending Copenhagen Fashion Week these past few days. The Danes (arguably one of the most fashionable people on this planet) know how to put an outfit together — which is key in the case of blue. Because unlike pink — where you dress in one uniform color from top to bottom — blue only seeks to poke out from underneath a blazer, catch your attention in the form of a sock, or simply serve as a headscarf. This, in my opinion, is much easier to emulate as we head into the warmer warmths.
