What To Do When It’s Just NOT YOUR SEASON

I think in all matters of life, there are ebbs and flows. At times, everything seems to be going well — your job, your love life, your friends — it all appears to be in perfect harmony. You get one good thing after another, like a promotion after a proposal. But on the opposite end of the spectrum, there are seasons when everything goes to shit. You know, like failing every single job application you submitted and then getting laid off on top of that. Your pet gets sick and then you break a toe. And while it all seems absolutely unfair at the moment, I think it only makes sense. It’s called *balance*. Life’s balance, if you will. If you want the successful seasons, then you have to endure the unsuccessful ones.
So what do you do during these tremulous times? My honest answer? Just don’t even try. It sounds silly, I know, but this just isn’t your time. Not only is it not your time, but the onslaught of bad things has put you in a foul mood, and you don’t want that to taint any potential opportunities now do you? Consider it a chance to sit back, relax, and let the tsunami roll on by. It’s not personal, it’s just the universe collecting its taxes.
That being said, there’s a difference between bad seasons and bad years. When I was younger, I once came home crying after a birthday party, complaining to my mom that noone talked to me. Instead of consoling me, my mother said: “what have you done”?
You see, if only one person was mean to me, then maybe he/she had some personal dilemma to deal with. But when everyone is ignoring you, then chances are you’ve done something to offend them. It was a very pivotal moment for me, because it made me reflect on my own behavior and take responsibility for how the world was reacting to me.
She was right, of course. All I did at that party was wallow and spew out negative energy. Who would want to be around that? Who would want to play with someone like that? I got my act together and decided to become a light that attracts, rather than a fart that repels.
The trick is now to decipher when the universe is simply collecting its tax and when you are to blame for the mishappenings in your life. I think it’s always beneficial to put pen to paper and journal, reflect, and really examine yourself. Have you been showing up to the world how you want to? Are you really the best version of yourself? Did you really do a good job, or did you half ass things?
Those answers should serve as a starting point to making a change. Never worry too hard, though, because nothing is ever permanent, and life can always change in an instant.
