Sneakerinas Are The Latest It-Shoe, And They’re a Hybrid of Sneakers and Ballerinas

Here’s the thing about fashion: no matter how cyclical trends are, no matter how many times we revive old fads, we have never seen it all. There will always be something completely new for us fashion-obsessed to gawk at, and today, that is the sneakerina. That’s: sneakers and ballerinas smushed into one word (and shoe). You have the rubber soles and laces from a traditional sneaker sewn into the slim form of a ballet flat. I’ll admit: at first I scratched my head at the unassuming match, just as I did when heeled sneakers first came out. But this time, instead of rolling my eyes, I slowly started to nod in understanding—she’s kind of chic!

The sneakerina is peak Gen Z fashion. It’s defying “rules” and throwing together pieces that do and don’t really make sense. “If you get it, you get it, if you don’t, I don’t really care” seems to be the sentiment amongst the youngins. And kudos to them, honestly. I love the idea of exploring personality pieces and pushing the boundaries of fashion.

Sneaker culture is also ever-changing—one day we’re loud and proud of our chunky dad sneakers, the next we’re fighting bidders for Wales Bonner Sambas, and now we’re… pirouette-ing towards sneaker ballet shoes? Listen, at least this footwear blends two athletic shoes and are part of the overarching theme of “sports”.

I know the trends are quick to change, and I’m not saying you need to partake in them all. It is worth investigating and seeing if it’s a match for you, though, so let’s get into how to style sneakerinas.

Bella Hadid, an early adapter of the best fashion trends, styles her ballet sneakers with capri pants and a leather bomber—a sleek, simple aesthetic that appeals to the majority. Amelia Gray Hamlin takes on a more retro approach, with pink sneakerinas, a fur coat, and quarter shorts.

At least we can be grateful that this is a comfortable combo. Anyone else remember Balenciaga’s heeled croc? Yea, it’s a pass for me. But this? This I can get behind.

Is it a trend I foresee standing the test of time? Likely not, so if you’re seeking something more versatile, look elsewhere. However, if you’re someone who always wants to be ahead of the trends, try out different styles, and have fun with your looks, then I recommend giving the sneaker and ballerina hybrid a try, starting with the best sneakerinas below:
