Why February Is The Best Time To BOOK A VACATION
Many people are wondering what the best time to book a vacation is, trying to figure out how to spread apart their vacation days so that they can feel sane throughout the year. And while the answer to that may depend on how many vacation days you have, I do think certain times are better than others to get out of your city. One of those times is February — here’s why.
If you had a week off during Christmas and New Years, you’re probably rested enough to work through January. Maybe you were feeling amped to start the year with a refreshed sense of motivation, and you were excited to get cranking on your new year’s resolutions. But by February, you’re feeling a little down again. Especially anyone living in the colder climates during these months, the awe of winter has worn off and it’s getting replaced by seasonal depression. That’s when you need a vacation the most.
I truly believe you need more rest during the winter than you do in the summer. Summer provides you with warmth, fresh air, lush greenery, and tons of vitamin D. Winter, on the other hand, drains you physically and emotionally. It doesn’t help that every time you look in the mirror and see a pale ghost — lacking all kinds of life — staring back at you. Waiting another four months to feel that warm ray of sunshine is too damn long. That’s why breaking up your winter in the middle, aka February, is the best thing to do.
Plenty of studies have shown how looking at nature and being surrounded by greenery can boost your mental health — something that typically spirals downwards in the gray winter time. Giving your brain a boost of serotonin by staring at some trees in February can have tremendous benefits on your mood.
Flights are much cheaper in February! Because so few people travel during this time, flights tend to be much cheaper compared to the rest of the year (like during the holidays or in the summer). You can get a great deal on wherever you’re going at this time.
Say you take three to five days off in February. The next time you can reasonably take off from work again is between June and August and can enjoy a summer vacation without any hard feelings. If you kick off the year by vacationing in February, you can have a break every three to four months comfortably, which in my opinion is the healthiest balance between work and life.
