It’s Time to Get In The Holiday Spirit, AND HERE IS HOW
There are some of your reading this right now and thinking, what do you mean?? How do you NOT know how to get in the holiday spirit? But it’s not necessarily not knowing how, but more that the time will whizz by SO fast that if you don’t consciously get in the swing of things, this magical period will be over in a flash. The holidays is about the only good thing about winter (can you tell I’m not a fan of the cold?) so I’ll be damned if I don’t enjoy it to the fullest. And for that reason, I need to remind myself to ho-ho-hoist my mood into all the Christmas glory, and follow my winter in NYC checklist.
This list is a little different than my previous list of activities, however. It’s going to focus more on the *vibe* you want to create, like listening to the right music and spritzing your apartment with cinnamon and vanilla scents. It’s intention is to set the mood, rather than engage in holiday experiences. This is for everyone that doesn’t like overcrowded spaces (aka walking down 5th ave to see the decorations sounds like a nightmare to you) but you still want to have that fuzzy holiday glow in your belly. Do these following things to get in the holiday spirit instead.
1. Light the Anthropologie Candle
The smell of this candle always reminds me of Christmas. Not because the ingredients used have any resemblance to pines or oranges, but because I always visited Anthropologie during the holidays to gift shop and therefore, associate their signature scent with Christmas.
2. Listen to Christmas music
This may be a no-brainer, but I feel like it’s important to point out. And before you think the same songs are always overplayed, there are plenty of Spotify playlists that are holiday-themed but aren’t your typical Mariah Carey songs. Take this jazz version for example, or one of the newer Christmas pop star albums, like Alessia Caras.
3. Change your screensaver to something Holiday themed
I love getting my desktop backgrounds from TheEveryGirl.com. Every time I open my laptop I’m greeted with a picturesque European town that’s the epitome of a winter wonderland.
4. Drink tons of hot chocolate, chai tea, and mulled wine
Or eggnog! Or if you’re German, a feuerzangenbowle. Sprinkle some cinnamon in your usual cup of coffee. These hot beverages feed the soul with a holiday glow, keeping it warm and fuzzy through the month.
5. Decorate the house with some pine tree branches
I won’t be getting a tree this year, unfortunately. But I miss the smell of pine trees during the holidays, so I think I’m just going to get a few branches and hang them up in the bathroom. That is, if my roommate lets me.
6. Watch a holiday movie
What’s better than staying home where it’s warm and cozying up to a good holiday movie? Nothing gets you in the spirit like watching a classic girl meets boy in tiny snow-covered village love story.
